WWE RAW 9/2/24 REVIEW
First Raw after Bash in Berlin and First Raw on the road to Bad Blood
Rhea Ripley opens the show with a promo
Following her and Damian Priests win at Bash in Berlin, Rhea tries to cut a promo but is interrupted by her ex, Dominik Mysterio. They go back and forth until Liv Morgan sneak attacks Ripley and continues the assault even after Ripley is hanging on the ropes and injures her.
It looks like we are headed towards Ripley vs Morgan at Bad Blood for the Women's World Championship. That match might be a bit hard to predict.
American Made vs Alpha Academy
The battle between Chad Gable former group against his current group. American Made is essentially two things, Alpha Academy but way more serious and better in the ring, or Diamond mine if you replace Roderick Strong with Chad Gable. (I still think it's injustice that Roderick Strong never made it to the main roster) Surprisingly, Alpha Academy held their ground for a bit until American Made eventually took control and won the match. As Chad Gable was cutting a promo, the Wyatt Sicks attacked and we are set for an 8-person mixed tag team match for next week on raw. I'm excited for that.
Zelina Vega vs Shayna Baszler
I don't understand what the point of this match was. I remember it being announced last raw because Zelina attacked the Pure Fusion Collective last week but im getting tired of this group. They are like how Legado del Fantasma is on smackdown. Baszler got the win and PFC beat down Vega until Lyra Valkyria came for the save but got beat down.
C.M. Punk responds to his win against Drew McIntyre
CM Punk makes his entrance fresh off beating the man he mutually hates the most in this world. He cuts a promo, ensuring that he was done with Drew McIntyre, which is what he said right after he lost to McIntyre at summerslam. He then calls out the World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther and sets his sights on his first world title in the WWE since 2013 and his first since the infamous Brawl Out 2022. He signals for his music and the promo is done but out of no where, Drew McIntyre (in a hoodie) attacks Punk, and absolutely DESTROYS him. As backstage personell is trying to calm McIntyre down, he grabs the bracelet from Punks wrist and instead of putting it on, he breaks it and trys to shove the beads into punks mouth and hits a claymore and beatdown ends.
This rivalry HAS to main event Bad Blood, because this has been nothing short of bad blood between the two. Maybe in a first blood match to go with the PLE name or a Hell in a Cell match.
Dragon Lee vs Ilja Dragunov vs Dominik Mysterio - Intercontinental Championship #1 contender tournament match
A pretty good match that saw the Judgement day attempt to interfere and help Dom until Damian Priest came in and chased off the entire group, including Dom himself. The match eventually became a one on one between Dragon Lee and Dragunov where Dragunov took the win and advanced to the fatal four.
It's unfortunate that Dragunov might likely lose this match, because Jey Uso is already brewing up the rivalry with Bron breakker but hope fully we can later get that match between Dragunov and Breakker because their matches on NXT where just straight HEAT.
Damage CTRL vs Unholy Union - #1 contenders match for Women's Tag Team championship
Straight from losing the women's tag team championships at Bash in Berlin, Unholy Union are back going for the titles in a no.1 contenders match along with the new champions at ringside. The most notable thing from this match was a very scary spot where Kari Sane moonsaulted onto Bianca Belair but she almost (or maybe did) hit her eye on the announcers desk. Thankfully she was okay. Unholy Union picked up the win and are the no.1 contenders.
I still don't get why Belair and Cargill are STILL in the womens tag team division, maybe they are dragging this thing for a singles match at WrestleMania but Unholy union should've retained at Berlin, in my opinion.
Gunter speaks after retaining the World Heavyweight Championship at Bash in Berlin
Gunther comes on to cut a promo after retaining the WHC but he is cut by Sami Zayn of all people. Sami says he is ready for the WHC and challanges Gunther as he says the Intercontinental Championship has been a stepping stone for a world title. Gunther laughs, claims Sami is not worthy for a title shot and leaves the ring. As Gunther is on the stage, Sami tells calls him scared because Sami was the only one to beat him on the main roster and Gunther fully leaves looking angry.
Sami does have a point, but he did lose the intercontintinetal title to someone who also beat Gunther, but just on NXT. But, it's obvious he won't beat Gunther, especially when they might build C.M. Punk vs Gunther at survivor series.
Braun Strowman vs Sheamus vs Ludwig Kaiser
Braun Strowman filled in for Bronson Reed who was out due to illness. During the match Pete Denne his Sheamus with the Shelaylay and he was out of the match and Braun Strowman won and advances to the fatal fourway match.
It's very obvious Strowman won't win this match but I think Ludwig Kaiser would've benefited from winning this and being in the fatal four way match.
Judgement Day (Finn Balor and JD McDonagh) vs Damian Priest and Jey Uso
Throughout the show, Rhea was responsible for finding a tag partner for Priest. When asked if she found anyone, she said "He didn't say yes, he said yeet" or something like that. The match was a basic tag team match. Like any other match involving Judgement Day, another member interfered and this time it was Liv Morgan but before she could do anything, Rhea Ripley on a crutch came to confront her. Liv made fun of her but Rhea stood up and attacked Liv with the crutch and chased her out so that Uso and Priest would take the win. After the match, when the show is off air, Rhea Ripley finally got to "YEET" with the crowd.
The new judgement day have not been winning, and they need to so that it will start feeling like a threat like the old judgement day. I see bad blood playing out with Priest vs Balor and Liv vs Ripley for the title again.
