WWE BASH IN BERLIN 2024 REVIEW
WWE BASH IN BERLIN 2024 (REVIEW)
Undisputed WWE Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs Kevin Owens
The show kicked off with a bang as Cody defended the WWE championship against Kevin Owens. Going into the match, Cody had a knee injury (which I'm not sure is kayfabe injury or real) and Kevin tried to get the match called off but Cody ensured him he was fine. The knee injury got to Cody as he was going for a top rope Cody cutter but his knee gave out and K.O was hesitant to continue with the match. Cody again ensured him that he was fine and it continued. K.O was looking for an Apron Powerbomb which he used quite frequently to injure wrestlers when he was a heel, but he didn't pull the trigger. All throughout the match, Owens was very hesitant to target Cody's knee and eventually his hesitation would cost him as Cody won the match. Following the bell, the pair shared a hug to establish that they still are friends following the match.
CODY RHODES RETAINS THE UNDISPUTED WWE CHAMPIONSHIP
Solo Sikoa says he is next in line, AGAIN, for Cody's title but I think that this rivalry between Cody and Kevin is not over net. Maybe a K.O. heel turn?
WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match: Alba Fyre and Ilsa Dawn (c) vs Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill
Going into this match, I thought that we would see Belair and Cargill finally split up so that we would then be on track for that dream match that some would say. I also thought that Fyre and Dawn would benefit HEAVILY if they were to take down Cargill and Belair clean, as they won the titles from them without pinning them and never really beat them. But alas, Cargill and Belair won back their titles.
JADE CARGILL AND BIANCA BELAIR ARE THE NEW WWE WOMEN'S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS
It feels as though that this is being dragged on between Cargill and Belair since they already had a run with the tag titles. Also, Fyre and Dawn are an actual tag team unlike Cargill and Belair, so it would help the titles a lot if they had a long reign with them.
STRAP MATCH: CM PUNK VS DREW MCINTYRE
This match was without a doubt, THE BEST STRAP MATCH I HAVE SEEN IN THE WWE, and yes, the tapping the corners did not ruin the match. The crowd was singing along to C.M Punk's iconic entrance music but this was interrupted as McIntyre attacked Punk from behind to start the match. Punk later fought back but throughout most the match, McIntyre dominated. Eventually, Drew would take out the bracelet with the names of Punk's wife and dog that he has been using to torment him for this whole rivalry. At one point, he carried punk on his shoulders while tapping each corner, but little did he know that punk was tap each corner too and both men had 3 out of the 4 lights up but then all turned off as they fought. The match finished with C.M Punk tapping one corner and hitting a GTS, then tapping another corner and hitting another GTS and then another corner and hitting one final GTS before hitting the last corner and getting is first win in the WWE in 10 and a half years, and one with his bracelet in hand.
CM PUNK BEATS DREW MCINTYRE BY HITTING ALL FOUR CORNERS WITHOUT INTERRUPTION AND HITTING A GTS IN BETWEEN EACH.
Normally, the babyface winning in this manner would warrent the end of the rivalry, but this is only their second match. Bad Blood is coming up and it seems as though the pair are going to have 1 final match to break their 1-1 tie. Maybe a Hell in a Cell match?
MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH: DAMIAN PRIEST AND RHEA RIPLEY VS "DIRTY" DOMINIK MYSTERIO AND WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPION LIV MORGAN
Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley finally got their hands on Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio after weeks of interuption by the rest of the Judgement Day. Still, the Judgement day interfered in this match but were quickly shut down. We even got to see Rhea finally beat the living daylights out of Dom, who tried asking for a hug to make ammends but was quickly put down. The match ended with Rhea Ripley hitting the Women's World Champion with a Riptide and get the 3 count.
The terror twins; Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest defeat Liv Morgan and Dom
With Bad Blood around the corner, I could see finally a match between Damian Priest vs Finn Balor as Balor was the one who costed Priest the World Heavyweight Championship in the first place and I can see Ripley challenging Liv Morgan again for the Women's World Championship.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: "THE RING GENERAL" GUNTHER (c) vs Randy Orton
Following the contreversial, end of the king of the ring finals a couple months ago, Randy Orton is challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, with hopes of getting his 15th World title in the WWE and 1 step closer to tieing with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, and John Cena for most world titles. This wouldn't be easy as he would go up against the all dominant, "The Ring General" Gunther. The crowd sang Randy Orton's theme song and blew up for the arrival of a legend in German wrestling, Gunther who was introduced by his long time friend, Germany's own Ludwig Kaiser, instead of Samantha Irwin. Through out the match, fans were having the time of their lives doing the wave which Randy joined in. The ref was very, and I mean VERY leanient as the two competitiors were getting away with a lot. Like steel Steps and the annouce table. It was a very PHYSICAL bout. Towards the end, Randy tried to go for his signature RKO, but was countered and put into a sleeper hold. Orton broke out and immidately put back in by the Ring General. Randy broke free once more but it was no use as Gunther put him into another sleeper hold in which Randy passed out and Gunther retained.
"The Ring General" Gunther retained the World Heavyweight Championship via Submission
After the bout, Gunther offered his hand the Randy accepted the handshake and the show ends with Gunther reigning supreme. This was a great first title defense for Gunther and it didn't hurt Randy either since he didn't tap out, he passed out. I do see Gunther having a VERY LONG title reign and hopefully Randy Orton eventually gets his 15th world title and quite possibly a 16th and even maybe break the record at 17?
